Dr Hitchcock – bio

From the vibrant streets of Narrm | Brunswick West, Melbourne, emerges the musical tech lord, Dr Hitchcock. Originally from the lush landscapes of Taranaki, Aotearoa | New Zealand, Dr Hitchcock has evolved from his mid-90s Rave and Grunge roots to become a captivating DJ and a burgeoning music producer.

With decades of DJ experience, he crafts a mesmerizing blend of Indie, Psych Rock, ElectroClash, Techno, and House. Recently supporting James Curd (Greenskeepers), Tom Cosm (Aotearoa), and Markj | Mr Soundfood (Taranaki, NZ), Dr Hitchcock’s live and DJ sets paint dancefloors with a vivid sonic palette that’s impossible to resist.

Not content with just DJing, Dr Hitchcock has taken the plunge into music production and performing live over the past 18 months, unveiling his own original tracks. These releases showcase his innate ability to transcend genres, infusing each creation with a dash of his eclectic influences.

Love to Cuppo

This is one of my first mixes since the big move to Naarm and is dedicated to Cuppo; a cute little cafe out the front of Brunswick West Workshop, a studio and co-working space.

This set features songs mostly of a psychedelic groove and includes the likes of Tame Impala, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Flyying Colours, Mod Con, Mermaidens, Jefferson Airplane, Bird Nest Roys, The Sundae Painters, Jeffrey Lewis & The Rain, The Seeds, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Jimi Hendrix, Chicago, The Doobie Brothers, and David Bowie.

Dr Hitchcock’s 40th Birthday Party

Life begins at 40 so I celebrated my birthday in style at Smash Palace. Friends and whānau, new and old, braved the Ōtautahi cold for some funky beats, 80s steez and modern classics. Markj aka Mr Soundfood snuck in from Melbourne, Australia while the travel bubble was open and treated us to a truly Dr Hitchcock style set, Tom Cosm smashed the floor with some funky house and disco, Pinacolada Soundsystem brought the true 80s vibe to the night and I played what I usually do 😜; perks of being the birthday boy I guess.

This set features tunes from Idris Muhammad, Fontaines D.C., Soulwax, Redlight, Hoodboi, Lifelike, The Chemical Brothers, Shinichi Osawa, LO’99, Tough Love, Urbandawn, The Horrors, Tame Impala, The Dandy Warhols, Blur and many more.
